About the workshops:

Session 2: 22nd May, 9.30am-12.30pm  — PBS Supervision (focuses on supervision in the context of Positive Behaviour Support)

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will soon release its Capabilities Framework which will  include mandatory supervision regulations for registered Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioners.

Supervision is a formal process through which knowledge, skill and competence is developed; an essential safeguard for clients and a form of support for practitioners in their work with complex clients and in their professional growth. Increasingly, within the allied health sector, professional supervision is considered both best practice and mandatory.

The DEAI aims to develop the supervision skills of experienced Developmental Educators and other interested practitioners intending to work in the ‘behaviour support’ space. These new requirements for PBS practitioners to receive supervision will continue to both professionalise the profession and support the safeguarding of clients. This training is intended to assist potential PBS supervisors to attain compliance with the new practice requirements for PBS supervisors under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

This supervision workshop is for all experienced Developmental Educators and practitioners who seek to develop their skills in the provision of supervision within their profession. A particular focus will be on providing supervision within a Positive Behaviour Support context. If interested in providing supervision to PBS Practitioners, extensive practice experience in PBS is highly recommended.

Benefits of supervision include better outcomes for service users, better professional relationships, opportunities to reflect and link knowledge and practice, increased confidence, skill development, and greater awareness and understanding.

Learning outcomes for participants include:

  • Understanding of the aims and importance of supervision
  • Understanding of the processes and structure of supervision
  • Understanding of how to reduce anxiety and build trust in the supervisory relationship
  • Understanding of common problems of supervision and their solutions
  • Understanding of providing feedback to enhance learning
  • Increased awareness of personal strengths and areas of concern in their roles as supervisors
  • Understanding of providing PBS supervision
