Workshops by SACID to assist people with intellectual disability to better understand the NDIS

The South Australian Council on Intellectual Disability (SACID) is running new workshops to help people with intellectual disability better understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and build their skills to navigate it.

Through their new programme, SA Inclusion Point, SACID is offering a series of “Get More Skills” workshops aimed at building people’s capacity to understand and prepare for the NDIS with topics like: what is the NDIS, thinking about a good life, goal setting, using the NDIS to achieve goals, and Choice, Voice and Control.

The free workshops will be run over two sessions, with small groups of up to 10 people, and a variety of tools will be used to make sure the sessions are accessible and person-centred.

Groups can ask for the workshop to be brought to them if they have a suitable place to hold it.

People can also ask for free one-on-one sessions either in the person’s home, at a quiet place in the community, or at the SACID office. Family members or carers are welcome to attend with people.

You can contact Felicity Crowther at SACID on (08) 8352 4416 to find out more or to make a booking for a “Get More Skills” workshop.
